DIY Tips to Add Appliqués to Your Wedding Gown
A recent article, How to Add Appliques to a Wedding Dress by Barbara C. Rich says that wedding gowns can cost thousands of dollars and eat up a huge amount of your wedding budget.
Here are some DIY tips to add appliqués to your wedding gown to make it more elegant without spending much.
Things You’ll Need
1. Lace appliqué or silver and white appliqué or beaded pearl appliqué or pearl and crystal appliqué
2. Silk Organza
3. Pins for silk
4. Air soluble fabric marker
5. Very fine sharp hand needle
6. Silk thread
7. Embroidery scissors
Procedures
1. Purchase your chosen appliqués from a local or online wedding supply shop or cut out lace motifs from larger pieces of lace to make the appliqués.
2. Those which already come with heavy beading or other embellishments like beaded pearl appliqué, use the silk organza to give extra strength to the back of larger appliqués.
3. Cut the organza to the exact size of the appliqué and stitch the appliqué and the silk together close to the edge.
4. Use the pins to experiment the placement of the lace appliqués or silver and white appliqué. Make sure your hands are thoroughly clean and dry when you handle the gown.
5. Use the fabric marker to mark the final locations or spots of the appliqués after you have pinned them on the dress.
6. Use a very sharp needle and thread it with a silk thread to permanently attach the appliqué to your wedding gown (a seamstress will greatly help you with this DIY project).
7. Finish stitching around, and then fasten the thread off.
8. Use the embroidery scissors to snip off most of the tail you started with and hide the rest of it under the appliqué.
