Picking The Perfect Belt Or Sash
It’s all about the dress right? Right. But the belt is almost more important than the dress. If you have the wrong belt, people will be more focused on that than your perfectly amazing dress. Choosing an elegant belt or sash can make you look elegant. You need to consider what type of belt, and how you want it added to your dress. Don’t worry! We’ve got answers to all your questions.
Ribbon or Crystal
How do you choose between a ribbon or crystal belt? It’s important to consider the material and color of your dress.
Pairing Colors
- Ivory Dress = Gold accessories
- White Dress = Silver accessories such as rhinestones and pearls
- Diamond White = Any color will work
Take these color pairing suggestions to easily choose between ribbon or crystal.
- If you have an ivory dress choose a golden ribbon for simple elegance, or gold beaded bridal trim.
- If you have a white dress, avoid clashing gold by choosing a pearl and rhinestone beaded bridal belt.
- If your dress is diamond white, which is just slightly off white, it’s possible to choose whichever style you would prefer in the color of your choice.
Satin or Grosgrain
When you’ve chosen to go with a ribbon belt, the most popular types of ribbon are satin and grosgrain. Satin has a naturally shiny luster, while grosgrain has a more matte fabric appearance. Grosgrain has a bit of texture as it has ridges.
Keep in mind that if you have a glossy, satiny wedding dress you’ll do better not pairing a satiny ribbon with it. Grosgrain is perfect for a simple understated look, while satin is eye catching and shimmery.
If you would like a little extra sparkle to your satin sash, you can always have a bridal sash made with crystals. When you add a crystal or pearl applique to ribbon you can express your personality in a whimsical way.
Sewn On Or Separate
Many crystal and lace belts come as a supply piece which can be sewn onto the body of the dress. This cuts down on the hassle of tying your sash perfectly or worrying about it riding up or down on your waist. Also sewing a rhinestone applique onto your dress gives you control of what gets covered. If you have gorgeous buttons or other detail on the back of your dress, having a sewn on belt will prevent you from covering.
Alternately, choosing a belt or sash that ties or hooks has a slightly different look and provides you with the flexibility of removing it. If you plan to only wear the belt for the ceremony you can then easily remove it for the reception.
Be Elegant
There’s just something about adding a belt or sash to a dress that makes you feel elegant as a woman. In the end, go with something that makes you feel beautiful and elegant. The perfect belt is all you need to complete the perfect dress. Congratulations on the joy to come! We’d love to see how your special day turns out.
